Youth courses

A series of online 6-week courses, perfect for any middler schooler who’s caught the photo bug. I love working with kids and helping them find their artistic voice, but also providing the education to support their confidence in their craft and with their gear. Each course will work through a series of skills and techniques appropriate for that level, including weekly prompts and critiques to create an art education environment.

Fall & Spring semesters are currently offering sessions for homeschoolers with the Summer events providing more opportunities for all students. If you’re interested in courses being offered around school schedules during the year, I’d love to know!
Let me know if you’d like to get your aspiring artist registered for the next session!

101: Foundational Elements

In this introductory course, students will learn about light, shutter speed, the focal plane, and other core elements to photography. Overall history of the craft will be interwoven through the content to give context to how digital cameras evolved into what they are today.

This course is an hour long. Students will be required to have a digital camera, but DSLRs are not required.

102: artistic expression

Building off of the 101 course, 102 will focus on design elements and tools artists use to express their intent with each piece. Each week will include prompts and critiques for feedback and honing each students ability to identify artistic elements.

This course is an hour long. Students will be required to have a digital camera, however DSLRs are not required.

201: Portraiture

The next level of courses will specify subject matter, such as portraiture for 201. All the components practiced in 101 + 102 will be applied as students are walked through various types of portrait approaches, themes, and perspectives with opportunities for advanced concepts. Portraits in painting are one of the hardest things to master, portraits in photography are a blast!
